The British frigate Unicorn was launched in 1824 with this sweet figurehead. And this isn't the only old ship with a Unicorn on its prow. RAMMING SPEED!!
UNICORN is a unique survivor from the brief transitional period between the traditional wooden sailing ship and the revolutionary iron steamship, and is now one of the six oldest ships left in the world.
my roommate, the neck-slappin' Crystalino, introduced me to this gem of a movie the other night. The American Astronaut: it's a musically-driven space western written and directed by San Francisco's own Cory McAbee. If that's not enough, he also wrote all the music, painted all the space scenes *and* is the lead actor.
Space travel has become a dirty way of life dominated by derelicts, grease monkeys, and hard-boiled interplanetary traders such as Samuel Curtis. Written, directed, and starring Cory McAbee of the legendary cult band The Billy Nayer Show, this sci-fi, musical-western uses flinty black and white photography, rugged Lo-Fi sets and the spirit of the final frontier. We follow Curtis on his Homeric journey to provide the all-female planet of Venus with a suitable male, while pursued by an enigmatic killer, Professor Hess. The film features music by The Billy Nayer Show and some of the most original rock n’ roll scenes ever committed to film.
The scene above pretty much kills all scenes in all movies ever. It starts out in Ceres Crossroads, an old saloon on a remote asteroid. Two thugs following the protagonist, Samuel Curtis, into a bathroom and the fun begins...
A train pulls into the station - it's the end of the line. A Hobo jumps from a freight car, hoping for a fresh start in a new city. Instead, he finds himself trapped in an urban hell. This is a world where criminals rule the streets and Drake, the city's crime boss, reigns supreme alongside his sadistic murderous sons, Slick & Ivan. Amidst the chaos, the Hobo comes across a pawn shop window displaying a second hand lawn mower. He dreams of making the city a beautiful place and starting a new life for himself. But as the brutality continues to rage around him, he notices a shotgun hanging above the lawn mower... Quickly, he realizes the only way to make a difference in this town is with that gun in his hand and two shells in its chamber.
Mission accomplished, Cousteau's shark-shaped sub rises from the deep and receives a well-earned pat. The artificial fish on its "head"—a replica of a remora, a fish often seen hitchhiking on sharks—hides a forward-facing camera, one of up to four on the vehicle.
In addition to installations, sculptures and private commissions, designer Judson Beaumont and his staff of eight full-time craftspeople have designed and constructed a variety of custom-built furniture and projects for public institutions and children’s exhibitions throughout North America and abroad.
Estonian sculptor Mati Karmin creates mind blowing furniture made out from sea mines. In his works there is something medieval, extremely brutal. Sculptor finds mines on the shore of the island Naissaar, located in the Gulf of Finland, not far from Tallinn. This is former military facility, mines remained from the First and Second World Wars. Fantasy of artist transforms militaristic scrap metal into the unusual furniture. The sculptor added to the newly created objects beautiful details, leather upholstery, glass surfaces. And at the same time they aren’t just art objects, furniture items can be easily represented in the interiors, they are quite suitable for everyday usage. These are chairs, tables, fireplaces, bathroom, cabinets, beds and even a pram!
