My maternal grandfather, Grandpa Joe, would've turned 94 the other day, God rest his gentle soul. It got me thinking about how great my family roots are. Someday I'd really like to take a trip to Slovenia to find some of my remaining family there and check out where my Mom's side is all from. Maybe do a little polka dancing with a handsome Slovenian man?
In homage to Grandpa Joe and to say happy birthday, here's a video of his brother, my great uncle Paul Yanchar (who looks an awful lot like Joe) performing sax and singing with his famous polka band in Slovenia in the 70's. How awesome are those shirts?! And you gotta admit. It's a catchy tune.
I also found this little gem while poking around on YouTube... here's uncle Paul singing and playing sax to the hit: "When I saw you standing there" in the 80's on the Polkatime USA TV program. Man he REALLY looks like Grandpa Joe when his hair got whiter.
and this last one features lots of dancing and whooping! ha ha! They really packed 'em in!
